HALIFAX, Canada
In 2000, a multi-year vision was initiated by the Halifax DiamondMan Quadrathlon Society to build recognition of the benefits of amateur sport for all. The vehicle for that would be a multi-sport competition including four elements; swimming, cycling, paddling and running. The goal was to increase local participation in these healthy outdoor activities through exposure to some of the best athletes in the world. In just five years, the society was granted the right to host the World Championship event in Quadrathlon, which attracted entrants from Canada, the USA, England, France, Spain, Germany, the Czech and the Slovak Republics.
Due to schedualling conflicts and the timing of the Oplympic Games in Beijing, however, the event for 2008 has been cancelled. Every effort will be made to bring it back in 2009.
Plans are now being finalized for the event in 2009. Like last year, it will be combined with a triathlon, for a real multi-sport festival. Our sponsor, the Shubenacadie Canal Commission, ensures a well organized venue and excellent athlete supportfacilities.
